[86] As I Like It
Quarter before3pm a man in semi-formal attire enters and announces that Dulaang UP's "As You Like It" Filipino version will open in 15 minutes for FREE in Wilfredo Guerrero Hall blah blah! We begged in berserk to Sir Deza to let us go, ignoring absurdly the day's next group reporters. Ack, after some negotiations (we've just hurt heir feelings) with them--
SIR: I'll only let you go if you can guess who the original writer of the play is.
COMM 100 CLASS: William Shakespeare! (exodus to AS).
It's my second time to watch it (I watched the English version more than a week ago) and I'm beginning to have a crush on the female lead having the role Rosalind making me remark:
"My dear Rosalind, I loved thou. Please leave not thee and stay for the rest of eternity!" Hah! Baliw!

Write, Speak, It's BJ!
*Yep, I met Ma’am Che-che in our interview with her along with Ate Ynna and Kuya Ely. She’s very intelligent, believe me. Kuya Ely covered almost the entire interview, and I was the last to ask. I was, umm, nahihiya.
Speakig of, last last Tuesday our individual TV reports/stand-uppers in Journ101 were finally shown in class.
I refrained being edgy (like block-mates Anne and Judy below) so that my self-destruction mechanism in my anatomy won’t give in and turn my non-burly body into pieces. And then our professor enters and she was so nice that I felt I was the most impudent person in the entire universe. (It’s just that we weren’t used to this.) She then handed a lavender-colored bill and told us to buy ourselves a cup of coffee in the neighboring cafeteria to our room. Then she said she’ll come back for a couple of minutes. Our whole class went nuts.

My spleen went to a high when one of my classmates dubbed his. Grrr.

Pics and Pricks
Last night, I had this chance of tidying my dresser. Also, I managed to lie down and glance ecstatically through these photographs of my years when I was an immature alaskador-ic Paulinian, at least in high school. The pictures were alive (but no, it didn’t bring me to tears =])! The remarkable thing was my classmates and friends’ personal messages written at the back of their collected graduation solos. And perpetually written as the addressed is my spoof name: Bareeh (yes, the horror of high school ‘coolness’ and the peculiar effect of text messaging back then)
JEN DAIT: “Hay naku, what can I say about you? Well, thanks for borrowing my notes, ha?! Bruho— you didn’t even say ‘thank you!’ Hehe. I’ll miss your kakulitan/kaewanan. [...]”
BARRY says: Hey, I said ‘thank you’ kaya! Anyway you should enroll in a Bachelor’s degree in Spectacular Handwriting— you write pretty well!
BARRY says: Joshua, you really make me chuckle (as ever).
BARRY says: You know Ralph, you actually wrote something very ‘green’ like “Doctorate”, “God-given talent”, etc. Gago ka talaga! Hahaha. I’m sorry people, but we comprehend just exclusively.
BARRY says: Maureen, I’m sad to say that I’m not into poetry anymore. A far cry really, I’m into sorcery. Haha.
Messages that marveled me:
AIEN: “Take care of yourself and take care of our relationship [...] Happy 2nd anniversary.
BARRY says: Aien was a little giddy when she wrote this. Peace!
KAT-KAT: “Ich gratuliere! Alles gute! Viel glück!”
BARRY says: This is soooo touching. Hehe! Translation: What do you think am I: a linguist? For now, I’m using context clues.
BARRY says: Is that you, Yahweh???
NEL: “Thanks for the friendship!”
NIX: “Oinx, I should’ve written you a personal letter but anyway, I’ll just write in here. [...] We can’t manage to blend well. But let’s also try although time is running out. But I’ll be here no matter what.”

Raining Pusang Gala and Asong Ulol
The up to date weather is erratic—it’s gloomy that it down poured almost the entire week. Unpredictably, the rain has not been affecting my emotions. The complete time I spare on reading the Philippine Collegian from cover to cover, playing with my 4 month-old nephew (I’m on my attempt to shove the to other brats in the house) or sleeping mocks me in my mind that the weeks ahead will devour me if I don’t start reading my notes (if there were), and spending time in the atypical CMC library (I wish). Well, I’m becoming so lame that participating [actively] in my two organizations will catnap for me soon. I have to find some more time for myself.
[78] Harvard Science High School
[78]
Harvard Science High School
I have little orientation on the Philippine Science High School (Pisay). Okay, it’s Jessica Zafra’s school back then, and records declare that it’s one of the schools in the country where almost all students pass the UPCAT (read: airheads are not granted entry).
If you think Arroyo’s SONA has innumerable applauses, buy a ticket for yourself and watch this. Intentionally, I watched this film [with blockmates] to observe the technical errors (for my Film100 class). Because of the almost-smooth ‘Montage’, I found it rigid to elude the flow of the story as a first time film critic.
In the film, Pisay students appeared very sharp, and their industry on sciences, philosophy and craft is stupendous. With that cast of less than 50 I supposed—where did the producers get the talent fee? I’m sorry but indie films for me reflected clever thrift and uncontaminated art. Whatever happened to the inclusion of Eugene Domino there? The comedy was of course satisfactory but come on, EUGENE DOMINGO?! I hoped Solito and company attained boomingly the money they expected.
Support independent films! Ludicrous mainstream movies (read: “A Love Story”, “My Kuya’s Wedding” and this imminent Manny Pacquiao movie) have arrived from hell (help obliterate dim-witted Filipinos’ worship on these films)! It’s time to rebel, junk popcorn films! Eek!

[77] Compassion of the Christ
Compassion of the Christ
I failed to enter the theatre on time (because I had class before), and just saw the part where this guy in wood material for a costume was throwing lines I did not perceive quite well. He was John the Baptist. Entered Romnick Sarmienta apparently as Jesus clothed in abel, and I instantaneously noticed the trend: “Passion of the Christ— Filipinized!” As aforementioned, I liked the creativity: Jesus, the Apostles, etc. in colorful ethnic clothes. This detached them from the usual concept of Jesus Christ films I saw in Lenten season; they became no archetype. Salutations for that!

[71] I Luuuuv U! (PMCO)
I joined this org last year, and voila[!], here I am now, doing astounding things I never imagined I can do.
UP MCO holds its anniversary every third week of July. Pushing towards the theme “Lovin’ It” this year, the org spends the week with outright stress of Mass media awareness, Collective membership advancement and Outrageous adventures.
Our exhibit was formally opened through a ribbon-cutting yesterday. Located near the Journalism department, second floor of the College of Mass Communication, the intriguing and captivating white tables, give-away boxes, tarpaulins and balloons you see appear to be some kind of a wedding celebration— symbolizing our “vow” to the org.
We have officially launched our website— it’s www.upmco.org. Click for more of UP MCO!
WE DARE YOU TO GET OUT OF THE BOX!
Be shiny.
Be happy.
Be an MCOer.

[68] A Rainbow leads to a pot of Gold
“When you look back, when you’re busy and all, you always wish for a time with your fellow MCOers”
Rawna Crisostomo (yes, the GMA7 reporter you often see in 24 Oras), basing from the previous line that she uttered in our interview with her, must have missed UP MCO so much. In the organization, the alumna has been fondly called “Pop”.
Ate Pop described the org “not just an org, but a family”. She even recalled her freshmen days in UP when she, along with her some of her block-mates, easily gave in to the MCO recruitment mixed with warmth. She said that her college life was unimaginable if UP MCO wasn’t there, saying “mas tahimik ako siguro nu’n, sa org na ‘to, na-bring out talaga iyong potentials ng isang tao.” Ate Pop joined the org in the first semester of 2001 but unfortunately, she got sick in her batch’s final rites and induction so she consequently went through it the following semester.
She responded to UP MCO’s call “because of its media advocacy”, helping her sneak into the vast world of the media industry. Despite her hectic schedule, she still gave us a little of her time for an interview. Perhaps, Ate Pop loved the org so dearly that when asked why she loved MCO, she answered, “It’s where I found my real friends.” She adds, “It’s the only org that treats you not just an ordinary Mass Comm student. It brings out the best in you; kahit mga simple activities, naglalabas pa rin ng teamwork.”
The 24 Oras reporter reminisced over the pressure of academics back in college where at least she and her org-mates “always found time for chatting and writing in the logbook.” Those simple things, she considered, were “treasured” that “with MCO, you’re relaxed, you can be yourself and you enjoy all the time with real, happy and shiny people,”
Though now her profession tries to deprive her rest and sleep, she stays ‘happy’ in the end— a mark of MCOers. “In all my hardships, MCO is always recognized,” the UP MCO’s pride said.

[67] Hum in Peace
After our class with Sir Alfonso Deza (the hubby of Nova Villa in ABS-CBN's Super Inggo; also the one who threw the classic 'Suportahan taka line in a PLDT commercial) and some laugh trips with blockmates Kat and Kris, I straighted home through the jeepney and saw this!
I immediately mouthed, "Oh my Good," thinking that Angel Locsin might be in that humongous vehicle! Overacting? NOT.
By the way, who is this Adam Brody? Ate Czarina left a comment in my friendster: "barry?two words:adam brody". And I asked why. She then told me that I should google Adam Brody up concluding that magka-asta daw kami. Hmmm. This should be flatteringly, or else...
Hahahaha

June Fried
I'm glad June is about to halt. The first month of my sophomore year is so explosive and coma-inducing that I almost forgot my mother's name. Also, the semester ahead will bulldoze my system. There are so many school (yeah, including org and council) activities. I can handle it, right? *sigh
And Joana's debut party is nearing (well, not exactly- it's August pa :) )
Should I get a date? Hahaha.
PS I'm regretting about my failure to sign-up in UP Green Minds. :( I'm an environmentalist, you know =s

[64] My Firsts in Journalism
(last Wednesday pa toh)
a. My first news story
The UP Mass Communicators’ Organization (UP MCO) facilitated a free media tour for two freshmen blocks yesterday.
A number of Communication Research (K3) and Journalism (K6) students participated in the organization’s annual activity. They first visited the Philippine Daily Inquirer office in Makati City; then GMA Network building and finally Social Weather Stations office, both in Quezon City.
Kimberly Jane Tan, UP MCO’s chairperson, said that “aside from wanting to expose the freshmen to different media institutions, the organization also wants them to be aware of how these institutions work for they are future media practitioners.” She added that the trip was also “in line with their thrust towards media awareness.”
b. My first TV report
with Ruth, sorry!
[63] Blogago
Honestly people, does my blog give you a killer nausea? I just scanned over my oldest posts and read them one by one. It came to me that the ‘attitude’ has depleted as time went by.
I missed the posts wherein I actually call someone I hate ‘a personified human body waste’. In my recent ones, I have changed it into ‘an average type of human species’. Have I been struck by the comet of euphemism? Far were the days when I just spill expletives as if someone’s not reading; and now, I must settle down my words to sound to you as an educated 16 year-old guy who shall later study the ethics in journalism.
Hence, the readership must be maintained by showcasing good and appropriate items. Is this the hypocrisy I await in the media industry? Tell me.
[62] Spewing Factory Exhausts
In our first day in BC100 class, as we introduced ourselves individually, this actual conversation is worth remembering:
BARRY: Hello Sir. I’m Barry Cyrus Viloria, a sophomore taking up Journalism. I studied in St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur from grade school to high school. I have these two orgs: UP-MCO and DZUP Radio Circle. And I’m single. *smile
SIR AVECILLA: You’re courting somebody?
BARRY: Sir, last year I messed up in my grades so I guess, I won’t be courting someone for this semester. I’m going to focus more on my academics.
SIR AVECILLA: Why is that? Seasonal ba yang panliligaw mo?
(Everybody in the class laughed.)
Classes has started vaguely as UP students especially in the College of Mass Communication invigoratingly walk around the university to, umm, enroll. I notice most of the freshmen who must have been born out of questionable definition of the word ‘luck’ for having been in the finest school in the entire archipelago however among the pioneer batch who pays a whopping 300% increase in the tuition from last year’s.
Anyway, I finished my enrollment in 2 days and here’s my schedule below.
MON
8:30-11:30 FILM100/ Introduction to Film and Audio Visual Communication
TUES
8:30-10:00 ART STUD2/ Art in Everyday Life
11:00-1:00 JOURN100/ Introduction to Journalism
WED
No classes.
THURS
1:00-4:00 BC100/Intoduction to Broadcast Communication
FRI
ART STUD2
COMM3
SAT
1:00-4:00 COMM100/Introduction to Mass Communication
To my High School friends: I guess I won’t be seeing you around too often. As I put it, I will focus almost all my time in my academics (but relax, I will not try to race over Mikaela Fudolig! That’s very impossible! Hah!)
To my K6 block-mates: Congratulations to the shifters who made it into their respective courses! We’re block-mates (for life!) though your colleges are geographically far from CMC. Hahahaha.
Shen, Economics.
Jau, Economics.
Mics, Business Administration.
Krisna, Business Economics.
Shereen, Anthropology.
GOOD LUCK on your future careers!
To God (eek!): I need your help. I’m sorry of I was born stupid. Hahaha. Again, good luck to all of us!

[61] The Hell
Spending a P100 load for only a month is an option I am reconsidering. As a matter of fact, I seldom reply to people who text me. This is to hamper me from being a kilititexter moron. But don’t be bothered, if it’s that important, I’ll reply.
