[68] A Rainbow leads to a pot of Gold

A Rainbow leads to a pot of Gold

“When you look back, when you’re busy and all, you always wish for a time with your fellow MCOers”

Rawna Crisostomo (yes, the GMA7 reporter you often see in 24 Oras), basing from the previous line that she uttered in our interview with her, must have missed UP MCO so much. In the organization, the alumna has been fondly called “Pop”.

Ate Pop described the org “not just an org, but a family”. She even recalled her freshmen days in UP when she, along with her some of her block-mates, easily gave in to the MCO recruitment mixed with warmth. She said that her college life was unimaginable if UP MCO wasn’t there, saying “mas tahimik ako siguro nu’n, sa org na ‘to, na-bring out talaga iyong potentials ng isang tao.” Ate Pop joined the org in the first semester of 2001 but unfortunately, she got sick in her batch’s final rites and induction so she consequently went through it the following semester.

She responded to UP MCO’s call “because of its media advocacy”, helping her sneak into the vast world of the media industry. Despite her hectic schedule, she still gave us a little of her time for an interview. Perhaps, Ate Pop loved the org so dearly that when asked why she loved MCO, she answered, “It’s where I found my real friends.” She adds, “It’s the only org that treats you not just an ordinary Mass Comm student. It brings out the best in you; kahit mga simple activities, naglalabas pa rin ng teamwork.”

The 24 Oras reporter reminisced over the pressure of academics back in college where at least she and her org-mates “always found time for chatting and writing in the logbook.” Those simple things, she considered, were “treasured” that “with MCO, you’re relaxed, you can be yourself and you enjoy all the time with real, happy and shiny people,”

Though now her profession tries to deprive her rest and sleep, she stays ‘happy’ in the end— a mark of MCOers. “In all my hardships, MCO is always recognized,” the UP MCO’s pride said.
